Trivial post of the day - How to call in sick

We all have them days where we're too "sick" for work... so sick that we can still manage to go shopping and clubbing. But there's the issue of having to get the day off work first. Now I don't know about you, but out of the 10 days I've been too sick for work, I've called in once (Mum). But there's times where you're going to have to do it yourself. Below are the 5 steps you should to take to make a convincing call in sick to work.

1. Prepare your illness.
Make sure you know why you're ill before you call up, if you're asked why you're ill, and
your answer isn't as strong as it should be, there could be a cause for concern on your return to work.Make sure you illness is going to cover the amount of days you need off. Food poisoning will get you a good few days off.

2. Prepare your voice and story.
The best way to convince your manager that you're ill is to have a tired voice which doesn't sound as potent as it normally does. The best way to combat this voice issue is to call in as soon as you wake up, you should still have your sleepy voice by the time you speak. Keep your story of how unwell you are short and sweet. Lies are often best kept closer to the truth.

3. Make sure you don't give in.
Many managers will try their hardest to get you in, for example by saying something like, "You know how busy we are today, are you SURE you're not well enough to come in?" Make sure you stand your case, say something along the lines of, you've been throwing up all night or you don't want to spread your illness to anyone.

4. Prepare to lay low for the sick days.
If you are sick, you shouldn't be tagged in pictures on social networking sites having a good time with friends. People talk. If it gets back to your manager, you could be looking at a P45 the next morning. (It happens believe it or not)

5. Enjoy your day/s off and play up to your illness on your return.
Enjoy your day off but be prepared to answer questions when you return.

Failing that, you could always go back to getting your parents or room mate to call in for you.
