5 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Getting an Interview

When you apply for jobs, it's quite often the case that you hand out your CV and hear nothing back. There are lots of ways you can improve your chances of getting a call back to arrange an interview. This post will explain 5 ways to improve your chances of getting an invitation to an interview.

1. Make your CV relevant to the job.

If your CV is actually relevant to the job you're applying for, there is a higher chance of the employer reading you CV. Spend 5 minutes and make your CV match the skills the for the job.

2. Make sure contact details are correct.

Double check that you've changed your mobile number if you've changed it. Make sure your email address has the right ending (.co.uk/.com). It is also good practise to put your contact details at the top of the page.

3. Hand your CV directly to the manager.

When handing out your CV, make sure you ask to speak to the manager. This way you can show the manger your interest and leave a good impression. The manger will be the one to call you back, not the first waitress you see as you walk in. Be dressed smartly when doing this.

4. Make sure you CV or the manager knows your availability.

Don't limit your chances by saying when you aren't available in the CV. If anything, wait until after the interview to tell them because then you would have had a chance to impress.

5. Follow up by calling them back.

Get the name of the manager you handed your CV to and call them back a few days later. Check that they've had a chance to read it and ask what they thought. This will show your willingness to actually work for the company.
